Myanmar junta restricts more mobile apps, residents say

Some Google apps along with the popular messaging app Signal now appear to be blocked inside Myanmar, residents told Radio Free Asia this week.  Several residents said they had been unable to access either the encrypted messaging service or Google apps except when using a virtual private network, or VPN. The junta has not released a statement saying they have blocked the apps, but the military government has banned a range of messaging apps, social media apps, and VPNs since coming to power in a February 2021 coup.  Signal, which allows users to securely message, call, and send files, has become particularly popular in recent years.   Chit Oo, who works on the Thai-Myanmar border, told RFA that he has been speaking with his parents through Signal ever since Facebook Messenger was blocked in 2021. 미 의회조사국 “북 화성-18형 ICBM, 추가 시험 필요”

앵커 : 미국 의회조사국은 북한이 2022 년 이래 80 차례 이상 탄도미사일을 시험발사하고 있다며 , 성능 향상을 위해 추가 시험을 이어갈 것으로 전망했습니다 . 김소영 기자가 보도합니다 .   미 의회조사국(CRS) 는 19 일 갱신한 ‘ 북한 핵무기 ·미사일 프로그램’ 보고서 에서 북한이 유엔 안전보장이사회( 안보리 ) 다수 결의를 위반하는 탄도미사일 시험을 이어가고 있다고 지적했습니다 .   보고서는 핵무기와 대형 재래식 탑재물을 고속으로 멀리 운반할 수 있는 탄도미사일의 이동성, 신뢰성 , 효능 , 정확성 , 생존 가능성을 높이기 위한 시험을 지속하는 것이 북한 미사일 개발의 핵심이라고 설명했습니다 .   대륙간탄도미사일(ICBM) 과 관련해 북한은 2017 년 , 2022 년 , 2023 년 2 월 , 4 월 , 7 월 , 12 월에 걸친 일련의 시험을 통해 미국 본토를 타격할 수 있는 능력을 향상시켰다고 보고서는 전했습니다 .   북한이 올해 시험발사한 ICBM 은 ‘ 화성 -18 형 ’ 으로 CRS 는 이 시스템의 신뢰성을 향상시키기 위해 추가 시험이 필요할 것으로 평가했습니다 .   CRS 는 북한의 중 ·단거리 탄도미사일에 대해 북극성 4·5 형을 비롯해 북한이 새로운 잠수함발사탄도미사일 (SLBM) 을 지속적으로 개발하고 있다며 , 관련 시험이 점점 더 큰 성공을 거두고 있다고 분석했습니다 .   그러면서 이에 대응하는 작전 훈련의 증가와 핵 억제 전략의 신뢰성 강화를 위한 전략이 필요하다고 제언했습니다.   CRS 는 국제원자력기구 (IAEA) 보고서를 인용해 올해도 영변 핵시설 5MW( 메가와트 ) 원자로와 원심분리기 농축 시설이 계속 운영되고 있는 것으로 파악했습니다 .   보고서는 유엔 안보리 제재와 고위급 외교적 노력에도 불구하고 북한이 계속해서 핵무기와 미사일 프로그램을 발전시키고 있다며, 최근의 탄도미사일 시험은 북한이 탄도미사일 방어망을 회피하기 위한 핵전투 능력을 계속해서 구축하고 있음...

Junta ramps up guest list inspections in Yangon and Mandalay

Authorities in Myanmar’s largest cities Yangon and Mandalay have ramped up housing checks in the two weeks since the junta enacted the country’s military conscription law and are arresting any guests who have failed to register, residents said Friday. The military has suffered heavy losses on the battlefield in recent months – most notably in western Rakhine state, where the ethnic Arakan Army ended a ceasefire in November and has since gone on to capture six townships. On Feb. 10, the junta enacted the People’s Military Service Law, sending draft-eligible civilians fleeing from Myanmar’s cities. They say they would rather leave the country or join anti-junta forces in remote border areas than fight for the military, which seized power in a 2021 coup d’etat.
